First Annual Winter Arts Festival
Despite the cold weather, 77 BxC students brought their families back to our school on a Friday night in February to celebrate the first annual BxC Winter Arts Festival.
Families visited galleries of student art work, participated in family art activities, watched students show off their acting skills and joined in drum demos with our drumming instructors from Drum Power.
Families and teachers worked together to organize the festivities and ensured a large turnout with excellent outreach. Families helped prepare artwork, donated food, volunteered to set-up and clean-up, ran a raffle to raise money for the arts at BxC, facilitated family art activities and shared their excitement about the arts program at BxC. Nelson Castro, the state assembly member for our assembly district visited and was impressed by the rich arts work that BxC students are doing every day.
Students, families, teachers and staff all had a fantastic time making art together, connecting with each other, and celebrating the artistry of our kindergarten and first graders.

Learning at Bronx Community
Everyday, students at BxC work with materials, ask questions, gather information, look for answers, share ideas, and explore their world. Instruction takes place in a workshop setting that includes independent work time along with whole group, small group and individual instruction. The BxC curriculum includes Reading and Writing Workshop, word study, constructivist math, inquiry-based science, project-based social studies, visual and performing arts.
At BxC, students learn to be critical thinkers and problem solvers, working together to improve their world. Children spend time learning about their community. Together, students and teachers plan and carry out community action projects that connect curriculum to the realities of life beyond their classroom. Students learn how to create change and become advocates for themselves and their neighborhoods.

Mission
Bronx Community Charter School
is a small learning community founded on the principle that children learn best when they are active participants in their own learning. Our students raise questions about the world around them, engage with a wide range of materials, and learn through their interactions with each other and all of the adults in the school community. Children learn to use their minds well, cultivating strong intellectual habits and skills to become self-directed learners with clear passions and ambitions. Teachers know children deeply and develop powerful curriculum to meet the needs and interests of their students. All members of our school community are committed to making thoughtful choices, advancing democratic values, and effecting change in the broader community.
